Forged By Fire is a Springfield, Massachusetts nonprofit providing emergency resources and transitional housing to families affected by house fires. Founded in 2015 by Lt. Donald Coleman Jr., a Springfield firefighter who lost his home in a 2022 fire, the organization delivers a $500 emergency debit card and family essentials within 48 hours of a fire through a direct partnership with the Springfield Fire Department. Lt. Donald Coleman Jr. has served as a firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department since 2015. In 2022, a house fire destroyed his own home while he was away on vacation. He spent 2.5 years restoring his grandparents' home, a property that became the foundation of Forged By Fire, the nonprofit he founded to support Springfield families walking the same road he walked.
